Mindfulness meditation training changes brain structure in eight weeks


ScienceDaily (2011-01-21) — Participating in an 8-week mindfulness meditation program appears to make measurable changes in brain regions associated with memory, sense of self, empathy and stress. A new study is the first to document meditation-produced changes over time in the brain’s grey matter.

  1. Only 8 weeks? Wow. I wonder if they've explored other forms of mindful meditation. I still consider Brother Lawrence's book Practicing the Presence of God to be one of the best books on mindfulness meditation. So many presume it is about sitting down, being still. But mindfulness is so much more. Still, knowing that sitting down and meditating has an effect in a mere six weeks is exciting. Thank you so much for sharing this!
